Religious Compositions

Most of what I write is in the form of an arrangement–arrangements are easier. But every once in a while I just have to write something original. I hope you like what I’ve come up with!

Make A Joyful Noise (Unto the Lord)

I really wanted something original for the choir to sing for Thanksgiving 2015, so why not do it myself? I came up with the idea for this song when looking up scriptures about Thanksgiving and gratitude. The scriptures I used to compile this song were: Psalms 92:1, Psalms 95:1-2, Psalms 100:1-5, Colossians 3:15, and Doctrine & Covenants 98:1. Go ahead–study them! And count your blessings when you’re through. Truly I have a LOT to be grateful for. 🙂

My Father

I was inspired to compose a song about fathers–one that would be fun for Primary kids to sing, but would still contain gospel lessons. Although I am aware that not every child has an ideal relationship with their father, or one at all, I wanted to praise the amazing men who DO lead their families in righteousness, following the example of Jesus Christ. Be warned–this is a VERY catchy tune! My husband was whistling it just a few minutes ago as he finished up with dishes. It’s definitely ear-worm material! The kids will love it–mine do! So, sing it for the amazing fathers in your life. Enjoy!

Reflections of Eternity

This song came together incredibly quickly, in under 24 hours of total work. Clearly the Holy Ghost worked with me, inspiring me to write lyrics and music that fit together so well. I submitted this work on lds.org to be considered for the new hymnbook (deadline July 1, 2019). As I walked around my neighborhood, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this Earth that God has given us. I reflected on this, and on His love, and blessings. Thus this hymn was born. I spoke the lyrics into my phone and finished them the next day, when I added verse 2 about the savior and charity. Truly, as we reflect on who we are and who we are meant to become, we can feel God’s love in an overwhelming rush!

The Holy Ghost

(a collaboration with Mark Richins)

What a sweet, beautiful melody, written by my brother-in-law, Mark Richins! Visit his page at markrichinsmusic.com for more of his original works.

When Mark shared this tune with us, I was inspired to write the words to go along with it! Being in the Primary Presidency, and having played piano for Primary for so many years, I automatically felt the need to express how the Spirit communicates with us. Please enjoy, and teach your little ones more about recognizing the Holy Ghost!

When I Fall To My Knees

I wrote this song sometime in high school as a Young Women’s Value Project, I believe. Wow. That was a long time ago! I came across it on my computer and decided to upload it. This is the original file. In the future I’d like to revise it to build better at the end. Until then, this is still very pretty, albeit simple.

Your Child’s Prayer

I love this so much… It took me a while to complete it, but the time was well worth it. This is an amazing solo piece that really speaks to the power of prayer and turning your life over to God.
